ALL THE THINGS BRITTANA!! Yes, we definitely plan on making this BrittanaCon all about Brittana. But what kinds of things would you like to see at the Con? Discussion on Santana's Coming Out The Power Dynamic in Brittany and Santana's Relationship AU vs Canon - Author Discussion Smut: You Know You Read it Brittana Trivia Brittana Musical Chairs - Thunderdome-style? (No? This one's just me? ) Fantasy Brittana - Werewolves, Superheros, Vampires, Sci-Fi Let us know what you'd love to hear/see/discuss at the first annual BrittanaCon. While we're all super excited just to be able to be in the same place to flail over our favorite ladies, we also want to make sure we make the most out of this weekend at BrittanaCon.

I'm not sure the distance is feasible for me to travel this time, unless it corresponds to another trip I have to take out east around that time. Richmond is literally a 33 straight hour drive from where I live. Haha.
I'll know more in a month or so. But I would most definitely like to be involved in anything that I can help with from here. Planning, support, ideas, really anything. I'm 1000% behind this idea.

33 hour drive.....I'd totally understand if you end up not making it. LOL Richmond is a 14 hour drive and if I wasn't putting it together, I don't know that I'd make that drive for BrittanaCon. :-P
I'm super happy to hear you're behind helping with the Con. BrittanaCon will be as amazing as we all make it. :-) Do you have any ideas for panels that you would like to see at the Con (either if you end up attending or on the media we send out afterwards)?

Obviously Glee brought us Brittana which we all are grateful for, but it's the ships writers that kept Brittana alive and continue to do so.
So I think there should be some acknowledgement to the show: a look back at favorite memories and an open discussion about it.
- I'd love to hear/see personal stories of fans, if so inclined about when and how they became fans or how Brittana changed them.
But I know, from talking to some of my online friends/readers of my own stories, that fans, attending or not, are really interested in the writers of their favorite stories.
-having a Q & A with writers in attendance would be ideal.
- even an open discussion about stories with the writers, all would be great. (Like a discussion about each others stories - just something not so one on one per writer.
We are a community so we should definitely be seen as one.
Some kind of raffle or something would be cool- something for the fans, not just the writers. Having authors attend is a super idea. Especially some of the ones already agreeing to attend, but we want to encourage fans to show up as well as writers. Get them involved in some way. Contest/raffle or something.
Uh, just some thoughts.

I think you've hit on some good panel discussion ideas already, particularly the one on Power Dynamic and I think it'd be impossible to have a BrittanaCon without discussing Santana's Coming Out in some form, I think there are tons of roads to go down within that discussion. I'm dying to discuss the events of Mash Off, I'm fascinated by the fact that everyone has a different idea of who knew what when after Santana's outing and I think we can all agree that the performance of Rumor Has It/Someone Like You is one of the best the show has ever done (do Brittany and Mercedes know what happened? Do they just sense that Santana is off? Etc)
If we have a canon!Santana specific panel, I'd like to talk about her as a friend beyond Brittana a bit because I think the show does her a real disservice here. Especially in seasons 4 and 5, we've see her doing amazing things for her friends and them barely acknowledging it and her constantly putting herself down. This doesn't make for it's own panel but I think it may be something interesting to discuss.
I'd love to pick the author's brains on fic tropes that we see for Brittana. Why the tropes sometimes work brilliantly and why/how we do deviate from them. It seems a lot of our authors write from Santana's POV, I'd love to hear their thoughts on why that is and I'm dying to hear from the likes of K311ys, who absolutely nails Brittany's POV (and stretches the basic tropes of this fandom into something beautiful), why she chose to go the route she does in Agendas for POV.
I know that's not much but maybe it can get some thoughts rolling:)

Is this were we nominate authors? You would think I would know, but surprise. Anyway, I nominate OhThatsWanky as an author that you should totally have talking about stuff (if she wants to), besides writing Kuno, she also did The Brittana Writers Series, which is excellent overall and might be a good source of inspiration for author Q&As at the con. Then obvi film/livestream it and send it over to me, but that's applicable to all con things. Also, I think it would be interesting to discuss writing in the Comedy genre*, not many people do it, even though Brittany and Santana are canonically hilarious, i assume it's due to being very hard to achieve a balance between solid characterisation and producing humorous content in their voices (but i'm just guessing). So yeah I think it would be cool to explore that theme in some form, glee is a comedy after all (or it was in a past life ahah). As far as authors go gurj14, HalfRobotChicken and Killercereal are absolutely awesome at it and definitely the go-to peeps for it. *(or even open it up to all genres and their differences, pros/cons, preferences, etc)

A/Uvaack - you guys had some good suggestions for panels/authors. I think it definitely be interesting to have a discussion (either open forum where people attending can talk about why they read one POV over another and/or have writers attending discuss why they write one over the other) to talk about writing/stories for Brittany's voice vs. Santana's voice.
Glee being a comedy in a past life made me laugh. LOL It's true though (which is sad). Having Comedy as part of either an author discussion or part of a discussion on genres would be good. I do think writing comedy can be hard and those that can pull it off with Brittana do it really well. I'll add those three to my list of authors to reach out to about participating in some form, if they want.
Also, everyone feel free to reach out to your favorite authors directly and ask them if they've even heard about BrittanaCon and whether they are going/want to go and whether they'd like to participate. Everyone here has different relationships with the authors and also has different people following them or that they follow. If we all sort of network, I think that'll be good for getting people involved.

I also think you should have a mini panel on 'Glee Departments' it could go like this: I. General: a) Lighting: Why Is It So Dark in Here? A gif Maker's Worst Nightmare segue into Overcoming Adversity: The Fandom's Best Edits & gifs b) Filming: Why Extras, Why? and Don't You Dare Move That Camera: We Built This Ship on Background Moments II. Props: We See What You Did There and We Appreciate It III: Costumes: A Journey Into Symbolism/What Are You Trying to Tells Us?i'm not sure if i'm joking in the meantime i thought of a thousand puns to go with this but i'll spare you the pain

....I was going to humorously suggest a panel called The Proper Way To Eat Cheerios (i.e. not off the floor)...but then my brain went there and just...yeah. I don't know if that would be a discussion on how horrible canon is to Brittany or a guide to smut.

Of the panel suggestions that were listed above, were there any that caught your fancy? What we were thinking of doing for authors who can't attend is to take questions from the fandom and send a subset of them to author for them to discuss. This could be released as a podcast. Also, if the wifi in the hotel is strong and the author is willing, we were also thinking of setting up a live Skype session so the author could participate in that panel (either on webcam or just audio). We're still trying to work out the logistics of including authors who want to participate but can't attend. Do you have any panels that you'd be interested in seeing/hearing about for BrittanaCon?

I don't know if that would be a discussion on how horrible canon is to Brittany or a guide to smut. LOLOL I will say this for that whole fuckery of an episode/premise, it did provide for a really artsy awesome shot of Heather and the Cheerios. As a picture, out of context of that dumb episode, I like it. Using that title for a smut discussion is hysterical. But also I think that having a smut discussion might be good (and might also significantly raise the temperature of the room with everyone blushing LOL) if writers were willing to discuss it. Why make your story M-rated instead of a lower rating? Are There Do's and Don'ts for writing a smut/sex/love scene? How graphic is too graphic? Is that even physically possible? LOL We would make Smut/M-rated/Explicit Writing/Fics a part of a general writing/author panel or be its own panel if people think it is a good idea. :-)

Why Extras, Why? That's great. LOL I wonder if we could work those into a mega panel about the Subtlety of Brittana. Like you said, Brittana was built and sustained on so many background moments. We could maybe have an open discussion talking about everyone's favorite background moments, important background moments, etc. Block out an hour and let everyone participate. What do you guys think?

Another thing to add is that we'll be doing Glee Libs. :-) The thought is to take a smut scene (either created newly just for the Con or take a few of our favorites) or even a Brittana scene from the show and break people up into small groups. They'll elect a leader who will be in charge of getting everyone's answers to fill in the blank and then reading their team's entry to the rest of us. As a whole group, we'll vote on the best one and hand out a prize (TBD). Or, we can just use this as one of the ice-breakers on Friday night as a way to laugh and relax, no competition involved. LOL

Do you have any panels that you'd be interested in seeing/hearing about for BrittanaCon? You know I'll blabber at length on any subject that has to do with writing Brittana, right? Let me recap the topics I spotted in this thread so far: - AU vs Canon
- Smut: reading it and writing it
- Author Q&As
- Authors talkin' bout other authors (and their stories, LOL)
- Brittana fic tropes
- POV and voice
- Writing comedy
I think all of them are excellent. I'm inclined to leave it up to the attendees to decide what they'd like to talk about the most.
