Do you have any panels that you'd be interested in seeing/hearing about for BrittanaCon? You know I'll blabber at length on any subject that has to do with writing Brittana, right? Let me recap the topics I spotted in this thread so far: - AU vs Canon
- Smut: reading it and writing it
- Author Q&As
- Authors talkin' bout other authors (and their stories, LOL)
- Brittana fic tropes
- POV and voice
- Writing comedy
I think all of them are excellent. I'm inclined to leave it up to the attendees to decide what they'd like to talk about the most. We want all the Brittana blabber. Too bad you can't make this one! So bummed. Hopefully, if this one is as successful as I am hoping (and sacrificing goats and fasting and lighting candles and dancing around a fire for), you'll be able to make the next one. :-) The AU vs. Canon panel will probably be slotted for two parts (maybe) - having writers/attendees discuss why they choose to write/read one over the other, preserving the core characteristics in AU stories, problems that they see within each and of course, the things they love about each, things like that. Maybe a morning session starting with Canon and then an afternoon session finishing up with AU. (?) Jerzey took some great notes from our last Con Chat so I'm going to try and get those from her next week once she's back around and put them into a cohesive way with the notes I took for panels. We're going to have a "Why Brittana?" open discussion (haven't decided if that's Friday during the ice breaker sessions or on Saturday yet) so people can talk about what drew them to Brittana (or to either Brittany or Santana), what that pairing means to them, what they love/hate about the fandom, discuss Brittany across generations (why us 30-40 year olds love Brittana vs. the more core demographic that loves them LOL), across other TV shows pairings.... We're definitely going to have a Fan Fiction writing workshop - do you guys think we should incorporate it all into that workshop (comedy, smut, dialogue, research, etc?) We're also going to have a panel discussion on The Power Dynamic Between Brittana and Santana. And one on Santana's Coming Out - maybe a discussion (side or it may spin off onto its own) about Brittany's representation? Not sure about that yet. I do like the idea of getting a set of panel ideas and then having people sort of vote on what they'd like to see/participate in.

Re: writing workshop... You could have a free-for-all where the audience can ask for tips on whatever subject. Might want to keep smut separate because not everyone reads/writes it and the subject might cause some awkwardness if it comes up in the middle of more benign topics.

I'm not sure it would technically be considered a panel, but I was thinking that maybe we could have some sort of... and this is totally nerdy, but like, a timed writing? We can put a bunch of prompts in a hat (with a duck, if you wish) and they can be silly or serious, and then we can have, like, ten minutes to write some kind of drabble or ficlet, and then we can all share. And since everyone will be writing fast, quality wouldn't be much of a concern, it would just be for fun, and anyone could participate.
Just a random idea, thought it might be fun.

Okay, so this idea kind of snowballed since I first posted it. I posted about it on tumblr, so here's a chunk of that post to explain what I'm thinking:It would be fun to have some kind of fic writing session, right? And since Brittany and Santana were in high school for the bulk of the show, what if we did it timed writing style? Anyone can do timed writing, right? You just write the first thing that comes to mind, and you don’t have time to stress over it, because no one will have time to polish their work, and there’s potential for hilarity. We can do a bunch of little ones, so if one really sucks, the next one could totally be better. And for people who would rather not write, we can have crayons, and they could draw for the prompts instead, or just goof off and draw unicorns and gay sharks.
So then I’m like, well, we could all sit there and type on our laptops, OR we could all have notebooks and do it the old fashioned way.
In favor of typing, would be that we could post them online right away to share with the fandom, and if we keep a steady stream of content going through the con, we might really be able to get the fandom excited about the con, and it would be a great set up for the NEXT con.
In favor of hand writing would be we could buy some cute notebooks in bulk, and decorate them, OR… and this is where my imagination goes into overdrive and is like THIS COULD BE SO AWESOME. We could all have binders (the notebook kind, not the boob kind) and we could decorate the binders with doodles and dorky shit, and loose leaf paper is super inexpensive, so we could do our timed writing on loose leaf, and…
AND… everyone would have a binder, and this is where I get totally carried away, because the binder can end up as a scrapbook of sorts. Everyone can hand in their timed writing, and I could make copies of all of them, so that everyone can have the full collection, AND THEN after the con, anyone who wanted to could make a page, like a collaged scrapbook page of their con pictures, and send it to me, and I could make color copies for everyone, and we could make a whole memory book thing and I am a complete dork I know but… come on, it’s maybe a little awesome, right? A little? Maybe?? No?
I’ll post this over on the BrittanaCon Forum if anyone actually likes this idea. At this point it’s just rambling and rainbows, and LET’S DOODLE ON EACH OTHER’S NOTEBOOKS. I guess I decided to post it...
But… what do you guys think? I have more ideas on logistics and how the scrap booking can go down, but I'll wait till I get some more feedback before I dive any deeper into this thing.
I was also thinking that some kind of makeshift photo booth might be a lot of fun. Like, we could leave a computer out (possibly mine) and just leave the Photo Booth app going, and people can go and take pictures, and IF THEY WANTED, they could post their photos to the con tumblr (only if everyone in the photo agrees), and at the end, we'd have a big collection of goofy pictures, and we can include that with the flashdrive that people will get, so that everyone gets copies, and we could also include them in the scrapbook, if that ends up being a thing. (I totally want to call it a yearbook, but that's another thing entirely)
Anyway, so those are my ideas. What do you guys think? Good, bad, room for improvement? Do you have any ideas for ways to improve it?

I'm having too much fun with the color options... blue was from my original post, purple was new, in case you didn't pick up on that

Would like to hear some of these topics discussed:
- Possible psychological reasons that Brittana has become so incredibly huge both on screen and in fan fiction; seriously, the numbers are off the charts; analysis of Brittana
- Brittana, their fears and defensive responses; issues of unrequited love, jealousy, rejection, personal safety, maturing sexuality
- Home and family lives of Brit and Santana, or events in their worlds that helped to create their personalities
- Why am I so-oooo, hooked on Brittana? Is there a particular psychological profile for those of us in this category? Are there many of us? I have spent a lot of time in therapy talking about topics brought up by or through the Brittana canon and it really has been helpful for me
- Discuss the times Brittana made you laugh or cry; the times they made you think about your own life; times they made you consider making a change in your life
- The reasons why the Brittany and Santana characters fit together so miraculously well
- What does Santana know about Brittany that she never says out loud; Brittany about Santana
- Legalities of publishing a Brittana novel series or anything else that is Brittana outside of fan fiction
- Dealing with losing Brittana post season 6; will fanfic authors continue to write Brittana post Glee? Hope so!
- Brittana meet Willow & Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and/or Doccubus from Lost Girl; they talk, hang out and have fun or unite forces and become.... a rock group that also fights crime....or your response here
- What Brittany and Santana would say, how they would respond to or think about feminism; issues of discrimination sexism, racism, heterosexism, L&G people hating on Bi and Trans people
- Parallels between Brittana and other groundbreaking TV teams; old (Cagney & Lacey; Golden Girls; Archie Bunker, Murphy Brown) and newer (Lost Girl, Orphan Black, Rizzoli and Isles) - maybe a suggested list of those TV series or movies we Brittana shippers would probably like
- Brittana jokefest; share Brittana related jokes you've heard or created
Thanks for listening, you rad con conveners and fellow Brittana shippers
